DOJ Will Investigate Google Book Search Settlement

We applaud the Department of Justice for taking this step to launch an investigation of the Google Books settlement. The deal, as written now, will give the most dominant online firm a significant advantage over its rivals and online book competitors like Amazon. The results would likely lead to market power that could permanently lockout competitors, thereby posing anticompetitive risks to the public. Furthermore, consumers should be concerned about this deal giving Google even more access to their information, since the company already knows how we find web content, and retains website browsing history. Besides tracking your online browsing, if this deal goes through, Google will soon know ywhat ou are reading too.
