Coalition Letter: Opposing the Codification of Most-Favored-Nation Prescription Drug Pricing

Arlington, VA-The American Consumer Institute (ACI) has joined a a broad coalition of national and state-based organizations urging lawmakers to oppose codifying the Most-Favored-Nation (MFN) prescription drug pricing model into law, warning that the policy would import foreign price controls into the United States without addressing “foreign freeloading.”

The coalition argues that MFN would reduce patient access to new cures, undermine incentives for lifesaving medical innovation, and weaken America’s global competitiveness in biotechnology at a time when China is rapidly expanding its research and development capacity. Instead, the coalition calls on Congress to pursue free-market reforms, protect intellectual property rights, and apply diplomatic pressure on foreign governments to pay a fair share of drug development costs.
