Today, the American Consumer Institute (ACI) filed comments in response to the Department of Labor’s Notice of Proposed Rulemaking regarding the classification of workers as employees or independent contractors. ACI’s filing warns against a stricter standard for independent contractor status, considering the risks of denying freelancers access to a work structure they find satisfactory, restricting independent contractors from earning extra income, and forcing layoffs of gig workers.
