Arlington, VA – We support Dr. Makary’s position that consumer access to unapproved Chinese-manufactured vapes needs to be halted. I addition, ACI believes that the backlog of Premarket Tobacco Product Applications needs to be immediately addressed and streamlined by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in order to allow consumer access to safer nationally recognized brand products. These products have long awaited FDA approval and will provide more for effective smoking cessation tools while eliminating any dangerous products from the retail market.
“Studies show these products are the most effective substitute for weening smokers off ignited tobacco products,” according to ACI’s senior analyst, Justin Leventhal. “Consumer should not have to sacrifice safety by exposing themselves to the risks of illegal products sold in retail stores.”
Consumers deserve safer and more effective smoking cessation products, and the FDA should make that happen.
