Public Comments: ACI Supports FCC Proposal to Modernize Telecommunications Regulations

Arlington, VA-The American Consumer Institute (ACI) expressed support for the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) to forbear from enforcing Sections 251(c)(2) and 251(c)(6), rules governing legacy TDM interconnection for incumbent local exchange carriers (ILECs).

ACI highlights that these outdated requirements hinder network modernization, delay deployment of advanced technologies, raise costs for consumers, and contribute to service disruptions, including 911 outages and copper theft impacts. According to FCC data, ILEC switched access lines now represent only 3.8% of the voice market, while modern VoIP and high-speed internet services dominate.
