Report: First Steps to Future-Proofing the Broadband Ecosystem for Artificial Intelligence

Arlington, VA—The American Consumer Institute (ACI) warns that the U.S. broadband ecosystem is unprepared for the surge in internet traffic driven by artificial intelligence.

As Americans increasingly rely on wireless connectivity and AI rapidly expands data consumption, limited spectrum availability and outdated copper networks—especially in rural areas—risk slowing speeds and widening the digital divide. The report outlines federal and state policy reforms to expand spectrum supply, modernize infrastructure, and accelerate the transition to faster, more reliable broadband nationwide.
