Coalition Letter: ACI Urges Congress to Rein in EPA Overreach and Protect Consumers

Arlington, VA-The American Consumer Institute (ACI) has joined a coalition urging Congress to support the End EPA Abuse Act of 2026 legislation that would establish guardrails on the Environmental Protection Agency’s use of the Clean Air Act.

The coalition supports the bill’s effort to reaffirm Congress’s lawmaking authority and prevent the EPA from expanding its regulatory power beyond the intent of lawmakers. In recent years, the agency has sought to use the Clean Air Act in ways that could have significant economic impacts on consumers, including efforts affecting vehicle markets and electricity production.

The End EPA Abuse Act would prohibit regulations that would significantly expand the EPA’s authority beyond what Congress intended, while preserving the agency’s ability to carry out its mission of protecting the environment.

ACI supports efforts to ensure federal agencies remain within their statutory authority and that major policy decisions with broad economic and societal consequences are made through the legislative process. The bill represents an important step toward accountability, transparency, and protecting consumers from regulatory overreach.
