Arlington, VA— The American Consumer Institute submitted public comments in support of the Food and Drug Administration’s reauthorization of modified risk tobacco products, specifically the IQOS 3.0 System by Philip Morris Products S.A.
ACI emphasized that heated tobacco products (HTPs) substantially reduce exposure to harmful and potentially harmful chemicals compared to traditional combustible cigarettes. ACI pointed to peer-reviewed studies and FDA findings that show significant reductions in toxic compounds and biomarkers of exposure in smokers who switch to HTPs.
The American Consumer Institute urged the FDA to maintain its commitment to public health by ensuring continued access to a broader range of reduced-risk nicotine products for adult smokers seeking alternatives.
