Arlington, VA-The American Consumer Institute (ACI) joins two coalitions to advance the bipartisan Standardizing Permitting and Expediting Economic Development (SPEED) Act. SPEED reforms the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to accelerate permitting for energy and infrastructure projects, a process has become riddled with bureaucratic red tape that unnecessarily prolongs the process and derails project completion.
SPEED codifies recent judicial guidance narrowing the scope of environmental review, seeks to reduce delays, and would limit NEPA reviews to project-specific impacts. The legislation would reduce litigation risk and increase project certainty, allowing infrastructure to be built in a timely fashion.
