ACI Hosts Discussion on Pharmaceutical Market Reforms to Lower Consumer Drug Costs

Arlington, VA— The American Consumer Institute (ACI) convened policymakers, health care experts, and stakeholders for a panel discussion examining reforms that could help lower prescription drug prices for consumers while preserving incentives for medical innovation.

Moderated by ACI President and CEO Tirzah Duren, the discussion featured Justin Leventhal, Senior Economist at ACI; Michael Baker, Director of Health Care Policy at the American Action Forum; and Joel White, President of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage.

Panelists explored several areas of the pharmaceutical marketplace that can contribute to higher costs for patients, pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) reform, price transparency initiatives, direct-to-consumer (DTC) models, and Most Favored Nation (MFN) policies. The conversation focused on ways to increase competition, improve transparency, and advance market-based solutions that can deliver better outcomes and more affordable prices for consumers.

The event highlighted the importance of thoughtful reforms that balance consumer affordability with continued pharmaceutical innovation and access to new treatments.
