Statement: ACI Applauds FCC Advisory Committee’s Approval of Robocall Mitigation Report

Arlington, VA — The American Consumer Institute (ACI) welcomed the Consumer Protection and Accessibility Advisory Committee’s (CPAAC) decision to approve the Protecting Consumers through Advancements in Robocall Mitigation Efforts Working Group report at the committee’s final meeting of the term on September 16th. The adopted report is CPAAC’s recommendation to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The report’s recommendations are aimed at strengthening protections against illegal and unwanted robocalls.

The committee’s Advancements in Accessible Communications Technologies Working Group report, which addresses how consumers with disabilities can benefit from evolving communications technologies, was approved earlier and is available on the FCC’s website. The robocall report is the second working-group product from CPAAC this term.

“The robocall report gives the FCC a practical set of recommendations to better protect consumers from illegal and unwanted calls,” said Logan Kolas, Director of Technology Policy at ACI and co-chair of CPAAC. “Together with the committee’s earlier accessibility report, it shows CPAAC can send the Commission focused advice on the issues that matter most to consumers.”
