Arlington, VA-The American Consumer Institute (ACI) joined a coalition of more than two dozen free-market organizations, urging President Trump to avoid an export ban on refined petroleum products. The coalition warns that a diesel export ban would distort market signals, disrupt established supply chains, and weaken refiners’ incentive to maximize production and invest in new capacity, while offering only a short-lived and uneven price decline that could leave consumers facing higher costs as the market absorbs the disruption.
The coalition calls on Congress to pass comprehensive permitting reform that would make it faster and cheaper to build energy infrastructure, including refineries, as the United States has not built a large-scale refinery in 50 years.
