ARLINGTON, VA — The American Consumer Institute (ACI) releases its statement regarding the nomination of Dr. Jared Bernstein.
The nomination of Dr. Jared Bernstein represents the latest attempt by the Biden administration to put activists in charge of policy. The Senate will be voting on whether Dr. Bernstein will be made Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA), which will set the economic policy agenda in DC. A proponent of numerous anti-consumer policy positions such as the Inflation Reduction Act, Dr. Bernstein would no doubt only help legitimize and bolster other DC agencies’ actions. Agencies like the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission, which have undergone radical shifts away from consumer welfare, will gain a supporter in the CEA. A return to sensible and consumer-focused economics is long overdue.
