ACI submitted a letter in opposition to S3309/A4380, New Jersey legislation that contains provisions that would harm consumers in a number of ways.

The bill contains provisions which would unfairly overcharge manufacturers at a rate of 1.5 times for warranty compensation. There is no justification or empirical evidence supporting this increase in repair costs.

By overcharging manufacturers, consumers are hurt because these costs will be passed along to consumers in the form of higher automobile prices. This bill, essentially, enables a transfer of income from consumers to car dealerships, and represents corporate welfare.

The letter explains other provisions that would harm consumers, and the letter is available here.
