Public Comments: ACI Urges Swift CPUC Approval of Cox–Charter Merger to Deliver Consumer Benefits

Arlington, VA-The American Consumer Institute (ACI) urges the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to approve without delay the proposed transfer of control involving Cox and Charter, emphasizing that the federally approved merger presents a significant opportunity to strengthen competition in California’s communications market while delivering tangible benefits to consumers. Because the two companies have little to no geographic overlap, the transaction would not reduce consumer choice, but instead enable greater economies of scale that could lower prices, improve service quality, and increase competitive pressure on incumbent providers.

With expected operational savings of up to $500 million and strong support from public comments citing affordability and connectivity concerns, timely approval is critical—failure to act before the September 15, 2026 deadline risks substantial delays and would unnecessarily postpone the consumer benefits of enhanced competition, better services, and potential cost reductions.
