Statement: EPA Proposes to Repeal the Endangerment Finding in Historic Deregulatory Move

Arlington, VA — The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) made a monumental announcement today by proposing to repeal the 2009 Endangerment Finding. The Obama EPA held that carbon dioxide emissions from automobiles contributes in some degree to climate change, which can endanger human health. The Finding has been used to justify over $1 trillion in regulations, including the Biden-Harris electric vehicle mandate, which restricts consumer choice and costs car buyers more.

As Zeldin expressed in a podcast earlier today, “Repealing it will be the largest deregulatory action in the history of America.”

ACI energy analyst Kristen Walker states: “I applaud EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin for taking this significant step in rolling back egregious and burdensome regulations. Revisiting the Endangerment Finding is essential in determining whether EPA has statutory authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions on vehicles. Consumers deserve choice and affordability when buying cars and should not be hamstrung by bureaucrats in D.C. who restrict their options and hurt their pocketbooks.”
